A Greensboro man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of two neighbors on their street, police say.

Michael Wade Hargett, 64, of Greensboro, was served warrants Saturday morning charging him with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Kathryn Binkley, 73, and Margaret Collins, 76, all neighbors on Creswell Court. He was also charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats. Around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 23, police, fire, EMS and sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting and found two victims with gunshot wounds; Binkley was pronounced dead at the scene and Collins later died at the hospital. After the shooting, Hargett barricaded himself in a nearby residence, and the special response team and hostage negotiation team entered and arrested him. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and taken to a hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

Hargett is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
