Rockingham County residents have a short public-comment window tied to state energy-assistance funding, according to a county news posting and state social-services notice.
The item says the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is seeking comment on a proposed Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program waiver. The proposal would increase the allowable funding allocation for the Weatherization Assistance Program and Heating and Air Repair and Replacement Program from 15 percent to 25 percent for the current state fiscal year.
Those programs are designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce utility costs and support healthier home conditions for low-income households. For Reidsville and Rockingham County, the local relevance is practical: weatherization and heating or air repair dollars can affect older homes, fixed-income households and families facing high energy bills.
The waiver review period runs May 21-29, with a virtual public hearing scheduled for Monday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. Written comments are accepted through 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Residents should check Rockingham County or NCDHHS public notice links for the current comment instructions before submitting.
